Professor Yuen Siu-fai, an acclaimed Cantonese opera artist and cultural advocate, made his stage debut at the age of seven and has dedicated over seven decades to the art. He is one of Hong Kong's most representative figures in Xiqu, mastering multiple roles and excelling in both playwriting and performance. Professor Yuen earns high praise from the industry and audiences alike.
He is dedicated to promoting Cantonese opera education and its preservation. Professor Yuen frequently gives lectures and actively nurtures the next generation of Xiqu talent. He also serves as a Cantonese opera advisor to the museum of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, contributing to the preservation of Xiqu related artifacts and fostering connections between traditional arts and society. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to Hong Kong's cultural and arts sector, he has been awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star from the Hong Kong Government, received an Honorary Doctorate from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2024, and was honored with the "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 2025.
